The annual Vintage Aircraft Club BBQ is on 4/5th Oct. The actual day will be specified later this week depending on the weather (Sat is usually the preferred choice).

From Steve Slater Chairman of the VAC:

Here’s hoping the recent ‘Indian Summer’ will continue into the coming week and, in particular next weekend, the 4/5th October, as we look ahead to one of the Vintage Aircraft Club’s traditionally most popular events; the Fly-In and Barbeque at Sackville Farm near Bedford.

As is traditional with the event, a final decision will be taken mid-week as to whether it will take place on the Saturday or Sunday. This is of course dependent on weather and therefore John Broad will be exercising his skills with the wet seaweed to make the final call.

The event is classed as a ‘members’ only’ fly-in. Those who are not members will be when they leave. I am sure they’ll be convinced of the merits of the Club by Tim and Angie Wilkinson’s barbeque - and our good company!

The barbeque will be stoked up from around midday, teas, coffees and other delights from a little earlier. We expect a goodly selection of ‘our’ sort of aircraft to grace one of the most idyllic and friendly farm strips you can visit.

Our prime VAC point of contact for this event is John Broad. If you are interested in attending, please drop John a line SOONEST to so he and our host Tim Wilkinson, can ensure that sufficient food etc is ordered. If you need further airfield details, self-brief please via the Airfield Info button at There are also directions on the site for those attending by road. If you wish to contact Sackville Farm by telephone, the number is 01234 708877.

For those who dance to the Piper tune, we are aware that our preferred date of Saturday 4th October is also the 50th Anniversary of the Vintage Piper Aircraft Club, which is being marked by a lunchtime fly-in at Sywell. For those Piper flyers who fancy a further stop-off, the VAC is extending a cordial welcome for those who wish to drop into Sackville Farm too, the only warning is that with all the food on offer, the weekend could seriously jeopardise your weight and balance!!

Finally. Looking further ahead, please make a note in your diaries for our combined VAC AGM and All-Hallows fly-in at Wellesbourne airfield in Warwickshire on Sunday 26th October. As ever, we hope to get the official AGM business out of the way fairly promptly after an 11.30 start in the Wellington Room at On-Track Aviation, in the buildings close to the Control Tower. We can then enjoy lunch in Wellesbourne’s famous Touchdown Cafe, which will be open through the day and we hope to organise a visit to the adjacent airfield museum and we hope, the mighty Vulcan. Both On-Track Aviation and the Touchdown Cafe have viewing terraces where you can watch the arrivals.

More on Wellesbourne soon. In the meantime, hope you can join as at Sackville Farm!

Happy landings!

Hi Steve - I hadn't seen this event listed anywhere. I am free both days, so whichever day is chosen, I will try and make it in 'JA.

Thanks for the mentioning it
