What is the amount of unuseable fuel in an 8E?

I believe there isn't any unusable fuel in the standard metal wing tank (8E/F) Alan. Quite remarkable really...

Thanks, if I run one tank dry does it cause problems getting feed from the other tank?

I don't think so. There is no option but to use the other tank if you have a tap the allows 'both'. Generally, on a lot of these they will almost run dry before being forced to use the other tank, even with loads of fuel still in there! An odd system.. Best to manage just balancing it. Allow for single crew - it makes quite a difference.

Hi there, not sure if you still need to know, however I finished my fuel cal the other day and thought I'd share....

Anyways, I had 1.8 and 2.1 litres unuseable (left and right tank respectively) in the level flight attitude. This fuel was recovered with the tail wheel resting on the ground. I have an 8E with metal wing tanks.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for that info. Did you drain from full and if so, how much was drained from each tank?

Yep, sure did. Approximately 46 and 47 litres left and right respectively.

I'll have to check my notes when I'm back from deployment, but I think that was with the tailwheel at rest. If memory serves me correctly it was approximately 1 litre less when filled in the wings level attitude...
