I have started preparing for my permit and appreciate that following the problems Peter Bentley found in the tail plane of his Luscombe and the report in the LAA Magazine I needed to inspect the interior of my tail plane.
I have found some rivet heads with corrosion and some corrosion on the trailing edge of one tail plane.
My understanding is some Luscombe's have inspection holes on the underside of the tail plane but mine does not, my thought was that maybe I should cut some inspection holes and then have covers that go over the hole to be removable for future inspection.
Thoughts and feedback would be appreciated.

We used a 4mm Olympus Video Boroscope on ours and the 2 other Luscombes at our strip ....it can get in most areas.

Thanks Phil used the camera and found my tail plane was bad and its been removed and dismantled, new trailing spar needed and new skin. Having a jig made up, lot's of help from LAA Malcolm McBride, Owen Watts, Peter Bentley, Ernie Hoblyn and my inspector Mike King.
Rebuild will take some weeks.
